“Never Events and the Impact on Health Care Stakeholder”
Effective October 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) put into effect a far ranging new policy that will impact hospitals, health care providers and health care payers—including employers. In a nutshell, the new policy is that Medicare will no longer pay for certain hospital acquired conditions, some of which are commonly referred to as “Never Events.” One of these “Never Events” deals with a condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which is one of the topics of the upcoming December 4 program.
